We members of Bunge la Mwanainchi and residents of Nairobi city are petitioning the  office of Nairobi Governor , Mr Evans Kidero and UN- Habitat Executive Director Joan Clos,  to  stop the  intended  ecological destruction of JEEVANJEE GARDENS  , that will lead to commercialization of the only Green Park in the City of Nairobi.
The Governor of Nairobi and the Executive Director of the UN- Habitant launched a Project at Jeevanjee Gardens on 24 Feburary in the name of  “Nairobi Revitalizing Public Spaces” a joint cooperation of the Nairobi City County and UN-Habitat., which the the plan includes:
1. Cutting down of  trees in the park and fence
2. Introduction of market stalls and exhibitions
3. Introduction of food kiosks.
4. Displacement of Bunge la Mwanainchi members and ordinary citizens from accessing the park, by making the park a tool of revenue collection for the County Government.
JEEVANJEE GARDENS was donated to the people of Nairobi by Alibhai Mulla jeevanjee not to be a market space  but to be a recreation and social space , it is home to many indigenous trees and many bird species and any  the ecological destruction of the park is against article 69 and 70 of the constitution of Kenya which  ensure state protection of the Environment  and ecologically sustainable development.
JEEVANJEE GARDENS is also home to Bunge la Mwanainchi, social movement which advocate for social justice. The Park give ordinary Kenyans a solidarity space  that gives the common people a platform to discuss and address issues affecting their day to day lives and any interference with this platform is interfering with freedom of speech and expression, the constitution also gives room for public participation and the residents of Nairobi and the users of the park were never consulted in the intended changes that are driven by neo-liberal markets forces and business interests.
Since 1991 the social movements  lead by Prof. Wangari Maathai  have struggled to defend JEEVANJEE GARDENS the only Green Park within the city of Nairobi when Politicians and Business interests tried to grab it .

History of Repression by state.

Bunge la Mwanainchi  in  coalition with the residence  of Nairobi demand that UN Habitant and Nairobi County Government  of Nairobi be stopped from  proposed destruction of JEEVANJEE GAREDENS. We are calling  for Solidarity  from environmental movements to Protect  and  defend this Historic Gardens  against commercialization and destruction of  its   ecological ecosystem of the Park  as our collective rights and inheritance  to clean and healthy environment as in article 43 of our Kenya Constitution  for the benefit of  present and future generations.
